Director's Introduction

At Isabel Hospice, we are proud to be a charity that was started by the community for the community - so much so, we named our Hospice after our founder, Isabel Last, who herself suffered with cancer.

Today, 40 years after Isabel and a group of volunteers started the Hospice, we remain strong in our belief that everyone deserves the best end-of-life care and treatment, no matter their background or circumstance. We have been extremely grateful and proud of the overwhelming generosity that we have received, and continue to receive, from our community.

However, we know that there is so much more that we can do to improve the lives of those who need our support and with the population of East Hertfordshire increasing, the demand for our care and services increases too. We are therefore working towards the next 40 years to ensure that Isabel Hospice continues to provide innovative palliative care in outstanding settings.

The appointment of our new Fundraising Team is fundamental to our strategy and offers what I genuinely believe is an incredible opportunity for individuals wishing to join a forward-thinking charity. We are drawing up an ambitious 2023-28 Fundraising Strategy that pushes the norms when it comes to hospice fundraising and includes a potential capital campaign.

Katy O’Sullivan, our new Head of Fundraising has started recently and has brought a new wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to Isabel Hospice. Fundamentally she is passionate about ensuring our supporters feel nurtured and engaged with our charity so they can support us now and into the future.

With so much to aim for, this is a really exciting time to join us. Putting people at our heart is not just something that applies to our patients, but to everyone who joins our team. We embrace the values of equality, diversity and inclusion in our community and strive to provide an inclusive environment where everyone feels involved and supported to make a difference.

If you are looking for a role that has opportunities for you to grow and for you to explore new fundraising ideas and initiatives, then please rest assured that there will be an abundance of this for you at Isabel Hospice.
